AI connection (MCP)

Ask your AI assistant where your samples are

Track My Test has a built-in MCP server. Connect Claude, or another assistant that supports MCP, with your own login, and ask questions about your lab's specimens in plain English. The connection is read-only: it can look things up, not move or change anything.

Questions you can ask

Example questions. The answers come from your lab's own records in Track My Test.

Why connect an assistant?

Many lab questions are lookups that take a few clicks and some filtering: find the study, open each box, check what's expiring, pull turnaround times. With an assistant connected, you ask in one sentence and get the answer in words you can paste into an email or a meeting note.

What MCP is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other software. An app that runs an MCP server describes what an assistant may look up, and the assistant calls it when a question needs that information. Track My Test has its own MCP server built in, so there's nothing extra to install or host.

How connecting works

  1. Add Track My Test as a connector in Claude or another assistant that supports MCP.
  2. Sign in with your own Track My Test login.
  3. Approve the connection.
  4. Ask questions. The assistant sees only your lab's data.

Each person connects separately, so access follows the same logins your lab already manages.

Read-only in this version

The AI connection can look things up but can't move or change specimens. Every change to a specimen still happens through a person scanning or using the web app, and stays in the specimen's history with their name on it. That keeps your chain of custody about people, not software.

Who can see what

What your assistant does with the answers is governed by the assistant you choose and its own terms, so pick one your lab is comfortable with.

Where it fits

The AI connection is an extra way to read the records your team builds by scanning: specimen histories, freezer locations and expiry dates, and turnaround times. It's optional; everything it can look up is also in the web app and on the dashboard.

The same approach in our other software

Track My Test is made by External Software, and it isn't the only product of ours that works with Claude. Hark, our meeting recorder, runs a local MCP server on your computer so Claude can read your meetings and transcripts. Kelpic® property-management software, from our sister company, has a connector that can also make changes after you confirm them. We compare all three in connect Claude to your business software.

Frequently asked questions

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants such as Claude connect to other software and look things up in it. Track My Test has a built-in MCP server, so an MCP-capable assistant can answer questions from your lab’s specimen and storage data.

Can the AI assistant move or change specimens?

No. In this version the AI connection is read-only. It can look things up, but it cannot move or change specimens.

Which AI assistants work with Track My Test?

Claude, or another assistant that supports MCP. Each person connects their own assistant with their own Track My Test login.

Can the assistant see other labs’ data or patient information?

The assistant sees only your lab’s data, and only after the person signs in and approves the connection. Track My Test stores specimen IDs only, with no patient names, birth dates, addresses, insurance or results, so there is no patient information for the assistant to see.

Do I have to use the AI connection?

No. It is optional. Everything it can look up is also available in the web app and on the dashboard.
