Specimen tracking for small and mid-size labs

Know where every specimen is, from collection to the freezer.

Track My Test is a web app that tracks specimens step by step, keeps an inventory of every freezer down to the box position, measures your turnaround times and gives patients a status page for their sample. It stores specimen IDs only, never patient information.

Not launched yet. Runs in a web browser with the barcode scanners you already have.

What Track My Test does

Most small labs track specimens with a mix of spreadsheets, paper logs and memory. That works until someone asks where a sample went, how long last week's specimens sat before testing, or what's in the back of the -80. Track My Test answers those questions from scans your team is already doing.

No patient information

Built so you don't have to put patient information in it

Track My Test stores your lab's specimen IDs, the accession numbers you already use. It never asks for patient names, birth dates, addresses, insurance or results. Matching a specimen to a patient stays in your own system, where it is today.

Results are never stored or shown anywhere in Track My Test. The patient status page shows where a sample is in your process and tells the patient that their provider will contact them with results.

What it stores
Specimen IDs, steps and scan times, who scanned, locations, shipments, notes, thaw counts and expiry dates.
What it never stores
Patient names, birth dates, addresses, insurance details or test results.
What patients see
Status and times only, with the accession number masked to its last four characters (for example ••••4821) behind a separate random code.

Who it's for

Track My Test is for labs that have outgrown spreadsheets but don't need, or can't justify, a full LIMS project.

  • Independent clinical labs
  • Clinic and physician office labs
  • Veterinary labs
  • Research labs
  • Biobanks and university core facilities
  • Environmental, food and water testing labs

It is not built to replace a hospital LIS or a full LIMS, and it doesn't report results. It uses your own accession numbers as specimen IDs, so it can be used alongside the system you have today. There is no integration with other systems in this version.

Works with what you have

  • A web browser. No software to install. The lab app lives at app.trackmytest.com.
  • Ordinary barcode scanners. USB or Bluetooth scanners that act as a keyboard work without drivers. Scan a location, then the specimens going there.
  • Your own steps. Each lab defines its own process, such as Collected, Shipped, Received, Placed on rack, Testing, Results approved and Stored, each with an optional target time.
  • Your printer. Barcode labels for locations print from the browser.

Not in this first version

So you can judge whether it fits: the first version does not include temperature sensors or alarms, LIS or EMR integrations, HL7 or FHIR, instrument interfaces, label printer drivers (labels print from the browser), mobile apps, single sign-on, results reporting or patient accounts. If one of these matters to your lab, say so in the early access form.
